Why Critterfolio exists

Every critter deserves to be known, not just recorded.

Critterfolio protects the little things that make an animal who they are — the routines, comforts, medical continuity, history and relationships another caregiver may someday need.

I kept wishing he could tell me

“Sonny, what happened before you found me?”

I have looked at rescue animals I love and wished they could simply tell me their history. Sonny carried fear with him when he came to me. I did not know where all of it came from, what he had experienced before me or which things would help him feel safe.

It took time, patience and a lot of learning to work through those fears. I kept thinking: I wish you could talk to me. Tell me what happened. Tell me what you need so I can help you better.

That question sits at the heart of Critterfolio. We cannot make an animal explain their past. But the people who know them can preserve what they learn — what scares them, what comforts them, what works, what does not, who they trust, what they love and the little routines no standard form knows to ask about.

Critterfolio is meant to become the closest thing to a voice an animal can carry forward when the people around them change.

The product principle

Critterfolio is about and for the animal.

For the family going on vacation. For the sitter stepping in. For the person suddenly hospitalized. For the hurricane evacuation. For the rescue intake. For the foster handoff. For the adopter trying to understand a frightened animal on day one.

Whenever somebody else has to care for the animal you know best, Critterfolio helps their story arrive too.

Thank you, Dad, for introducing me to coding when I was 12 years old and opening my mind to just how vast the possibilities could be.

I stepped away from coding for a long time and only recently found my way back to it. But I never forgot what that first experience taught me: change wasn't something I needed to fear. There was always something new to learn, something new to try, and another possibility waiting to be explored.

And thank you for the lifelong love of critters you gave me.

All these years later, those two parts of my life found each other in Critterfolio.
